Hero analysis

In this analysis I will be using migrain analysis technique which includes media language, institution, genre, representation, audience, and narrative. In the opening scene of heroes we can see the hero’s logo (which is represented through and eclipse) and the episode name. The episode name is then very cleverly inserted into the actual prop of the scene. This makes the reader think about the episode name more.

Then we are introduced to our first character who we can only assume is a “hero” as he has powers, and this character I think is represented in a stereotypical way as the Japanese character is shown to have high energy and running around making a lot of noise. Then we are introduced the Indian character who is represented with an accent and with a calm attitude. After we are introduced to our American character that is represented as a stripper and low self respect.

The whole opening sequence is all run through with dark dull colours to create a certain mood. From here we are taken into our main protagonist’s vision where he is flying and here the use of slow non digenetic sound and slow camera movements from a bird-eye view create a calm peaceful mood. In my view I think this whole first episode was targeted and aimed at showing and getting across the image that anyone can be a hero and they have done this through showing people from different backgrounds and ethnicity with super powers.

Then we are introduced the Indian character who is represented with an accent and with a calm attitude. After we are introduced to our American character that is represented as a stripper and low self respect. The narrative is introduced through a narrator in the beginning and the font used in the episode is the same as used in comic books maybe to show there is a link between this and a comic.
