Cross media case study

Film trailer Analysis

For my case study i will be studying the film Adulthood and the tv series Dubplate drama, the link between these two are that they both represent urban drama in london.

Above i have the trailer for my film Adulthood, in the opening of the trailer it has a close up shot of a couple in bed and you can hear the girl talking with the close up shots of the girl changing constanly from different angles. this scene fades out into a birds eye veiw if a busy city. next we can see a side shot of violence as a man is punched , while this is happening we can hear the non diegetic sound of the film soundtrack in the background, this is being played to promote the soundtrack and the film in the trailer.

This scene then also fades out into a shot of people dancing and people running and this is done at a fast pace to go along with the non diegetic music. after this we are forst introduced to the narrative and the protagonist as the shot is forzen with the main protagonist and the words "six years locked up" are displayed. This is done to introduce the narrative behind the film. After this the shots are focused around the protagonists and the words "first day out is displayed", After this what we percive to be the villian is shown in a close up to see his angry facial expression.

We percive him to be the villian as he is shown with a weapon and the words " time to settle the score" are shown next to a close up shot of him. Next we are shown shots of the protagonist being chased and beaten in various different scence followed up by a close up with the word "nowhere to run" and "nothing to lose" to show more of the narrative to audiences. This scence is followed by the pace of the trailer dramatically increasing to create tension and is ended by the loud sound of a window breaking.

After this we see a stand off between the main protagonist and the villian as they are both holding guns towards each other but this is quickly changed and we see shots of romance and police running up stairs to summerise what the film is about, fast paced action. The trailer is then ended with a low angle shot of the villian saying "you think i forgot you blud", this shows the age range and maybe the type of audience this film is trying to target, a young e/d class auidences.

Adulthood is the sequel to kidult hood and is linked to grime. Adulthood was promoted through adverts , trailers, and its own soundtrack album made with today’s grime artists.

Dubplate Drama episode 2 opening credits analysis

The opening credits for dubplate drama as different to normal programmes as it is U.K's fisrt interactive programme where people can vote what happenes next episode, because of this the opening starts of with a recap of the end of the last episode (what the audience was suppose to vote for). Next the screen shows a red and black screen and the choices are displayed and the winning choice is then shown and the episode resumes.

The use of colours here are an important part of influencing the audiences as red and black are strong colours and red ccan also represent violence and blood if the audiences make the "bad" choice. The target audience for this seem to be teenagers as most the actors and the language used in this are teenagers and what teenagers use. We can see this is an urban drama as it is set around an urban area and all characters are dressed as "lower class" citizens, the drama aspects are shown through the choice making the audiences have to make as this makes dubplate drama what it is.

This tv text was produced by channal 4 and was also bought into by Mtv in order for them to show it on their urban channal Mtv Base.

Dubplate drama also has a website : http://www.dubplatedrama.tv/index.php and the film was produced by a company called red-mullet and they have their own website : http://www.red-mullet.com/home.html. Red-mullet are purely a production company and do not own any other media platforms.

Film poster analysis:

This poster shows a head on medium shot of the main characters in the film. The subjects of this poster are the people (characters) of the film we can see this as they are the main focus of the poster. The colours used in this poster are very dull and creates a bad mood and none of the characters in the poster look happy. The setting of the poster matches the film as it is outdoors in what looks like an urban area again targeting the e/d class teenager audiences. The lighting in this poster seems to be very dark and also adds to the dull atmosphere in the poster.

The characters in the poster seem very tense and dont seem relaxed , the image of a character standing with a weapon appeal to the audiences as they will know there is some kind of violence involved in this film. There is barely any text in this poster and is mostly the image however where there is text the wod "KIDULDHOOD" is bigger and bolder than the rest of the text , this is because this is the films name and the makers want people on the go to notice the name of the film. The image toward the top get brighter in the sky maybe to show that their might be some hope for these troubled teenagers.
